News Media Company Improves Productivity

Four years ago, Altamente visited a local media company and found a network with multiple operating systems, one large pipeline to the Internet exclusively used for the graphic arts department's access to images. The first line of action was to introduce an Altabox to distribute the use of Internet access while establishing basic rules of use that protected the company's productivity. The second step was to create and train employees in the use of corporate webmail. These two basic Altabox features led to a revolution in the media company's productivity. Reporters were able to access a wider variety of stories and research facts, ad and classified sales people finally used the quick effective means of email communication to sell.

Three years after the Altabox was installed, it is now recognized as a crucial element to the publication's timely running. "If the Altabox were ever to be down for more than 4 hours, we would be missing a deadline for publication" a large responsibility acknowledged by the Information Systems Supervisor, "but the Altabox has never given us cause."

In recent attacks, the Altabox has reconfirmed it's multi-layer effective defenses by staving off over 2400 infected emails in a one week period. The thought of not having the protection of the Altamente/Sophos anti-virus and anti-Spam would be enough to keep the IT Supervisor awake at night. But as it is, history has shown that the Altabox is not only reliable, it is effective.
