Puntos del Sabor - Customer Loyalty Program

Puntos del Sabor or Tasty Points http://www.puntosdelsabor.com/ is a customer loyalty program. Using the Drupal based content management system, we added features, shopping, and user points, all trackable online.

We started with a modular content management system called Drupal. Next we added a store and shopping cart, but with a twist. Since this would be a customer loyalty program, we would be dealing with customer points instead of cash. With each purchase of a Holsum or Bimbo product, consumers would earn points which they can then redeem in the online store.

Spread Thin? Avoid Loosing Productivity

Recently a construction company came to Altamente with the unique problem of having so many field sites and traveling engineers that project management had become a thorny challenge. The company had earlier invested in web modules for expensive group and project management software as well as a web interface for their accounting system. However, a year and many tens of thousands of dollars later, they were no better off. The engineers in the field were dissuaded from using the web interfaces because the interaction with the software and database rendered so slowly. They considered it a waste of their time. Reports they managed informally via spreadsheets in minutes, took an hour or more through the estimation program. Frustration set in and the company was on the hunt for a new solution.

Short from installing new hardware and licenses in every remote office to run programs locally, the company asked, "what can we do?"

You Already Own All the Software on This Website

It was time to refactor this website, offer new services, organize content, and hone our client focus. I will recount the process here, partly for historical reasons and as documentation for later, but also just because the whole process was so cool. First, the technology used was, as always, 100% GPL'ed or BSD licensed software, from the content management system, to the flash animations, to the images, 3-d modelling, PDF generation, authoring, hosting, and database. If I think of anything else, I'll throw it in the soup. Everything from start to finish was done with 100% software libre.

Local Coffee Producer Breaks Out

Altamente is super excited for the launch of a new project which involves a beverage responsible for our every success. Coffee. Without coffee, we dare say our engineering department would not function. When an agricultural cooperative (farmer's group) presented us with the opportunity to extoll the virtues of Cafe Cibales, a locally grown and producted coffee, we could not say no. Will work for coffee? "Sure, anything you say," said the engineers.

News Media Company Improves Productivity

Four years ago, Altamente visited a local media company and found a network with multiple operating systems, one large pipeline to the Internet exclusively used for the graphic arts department's access to images. The first line of action was to introduce an Altabox to distribute the use of Internet access while establishing basic rules of use that protected the company's productivity. The second step was to create and train employees in the use of corporate webmail. These two basic Altabox features led to a revolution in the media company's productivity. Reporters were able to access a wider variety of stories and research facts, ad and classified sales people finally used the quick effective means of email communication to sell.

Using the Internet to do What Your Company Does Best

A large industrial bakery in Puerto Rico came to Altamente over three years ago with many of the classic symptoms of larger companies trying to effectively use the Internet to do business. The company's core competency is baking bread and pastries and distributing them throughout the island. What makes this case especially interesting is the necessity to keep the company's focus on bread baking and not IT infrastructure. IT infrastructure can help them, but it can easily become an expensive distraction.
